Football player Quincy Promes has been arrested in Dubai at the request of the Dutch Public Prosecution Service, according to De Telegraaf, citing a release from the Amsterdam prosecutor's office.

Journalists report that the arrest is related to the Netherlands' request for the player's extradition. In the Netherlands, Promes was sentenced to 7.5 years in prison for drug trafficking and stabbing his cousin.

"Following constructive cooperation between the authorities of the United Arab Emirates and the Netherlands, a 32-year-old man residing in Moscow was arrested in Dubai. The arrest was made on the basis of a 'red notice' issued by the Netherlands. The Netherlands will request the extradition of the man," -- the prosecutor's office said.

On February 29, Promes was detained at border control at Dubai Airport. It was later revealed that the reason for the detention was a car accident. Until today, he was under a travel ban. Today he was fined by the court for fleeing the scene of the accident, but was subsequently arrested at the request of the Netherlands.
